Visa and travel information

Citizens of European Union countries and countries that have signed the Schengen treaty require only a valid passport or ID card to travel to Italy.
Citizens from non-EU countries can enter Italy with a passport valid for at least three months after the scheduled departure date from the Schengen area.

Climate

The best times to visit Milan are April to May or September to October . These spring and fall months straddle the city's manic peak tourism season, and they also escape the summer's sweltering temperatures. The average maximum daytime temperature lies around 24.4°C (75.9°F).

Time

Italy is in the Central European time zone, which means that Milano is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT/WET), and 5 hours ahead of the American East Coast (EST). Summertime, when daylight saving time is being observed, is from the end of March to the end of October (+1 hour).

Currency

The Euro is the official currency in Italy which can be considered one of the less expensive countries in Europe.

Electricity in Italy

In Italy the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. You can use your electric appliances in Italy, if the standard voltage in your country is in between 220 - 240 V (as is in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of Asia and Africa). If the standard voltage in your country is in the range of 100 V - 127 V (as is in the US, Canada and most South American countries), you need a voltage converter in Italy. You can also consider a combined power plug adapter/voltage converter.
Power plugs and sockets are of type F and L. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
Type F: also known as ``Schuko``. This socket also works with plug C and plug E.
Type L: This type is of Italian origin. This socket also works with plug C.
