Head of the Diagnostic Department of the University Hospital of Parma
Nicola Sverzellati is a Professor of Radiology in the Department of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma, and Director of the Diagnostic Department of The University Hospital of Parma, Italy. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Bologna, Italy. He received his radiology training and obtained his PhD in “Advanced Cardio-Thoracic Imaging” at the University of Parma. In 2005-2006 he worked as research fellow in Chest Radiology at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London (England).
Professor Sverzellati is known for his research in Chest Radiology covering the areas of interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, chronic obstructive lung disease, and cardiopulmonary disorders. He was also involved at the National Cancer Institute of Milan with screening initiatives (e.g. Mild Italian Lung Detection trial).
He lectures extensively nationally and internationally (e.g. ECR, RSNA, ERS, IDKD), and he has authored or co-authored 360 articles in peer reviewed journals, numerous abstracts for international congresses, and book chapters. He is also of editor of two books. He is editorial board member of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging and La Radiologia Medica.
He is member of the Fleischner Society, past president of the thoracic section of the Italian society of diagnostic and interventional radiology (SIRM), and past President of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging (ESTI).
