A graduate in Medicine and Surgery from Sapienza University of Rome, Giuseppe Tonini specialised in General Pathology and Medical Oncology and earned a PhD in Thoracic Oncology at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
He is Full Professor of Medical Oncology at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, where he directs the School of Specialization in Medical Oncology, leads the Medical Oncology Unit of the University Hospital and heads the Oncology Research Unit. He has also directed the PhD School in Osteo-Oncology, contributing to the training of new generations of clinicians and researchers.
At national level, he coordinates the AIOM guidelines for the treatment of biliary tract cancers and serves as educational lead of the Italian College of Academic Medical Oncologists (COMU). He is President of the Permanent Conference of Directors of Master’s Programmes in Palliative Care and Pain Therapy and plays a key role within LILT – the Italian League Against Cancer – contributing to its scientific and organisational activities in cancer prevention and care.
Editor-in-Chief of Expert Opinion on Investigational Drugs and member of the editorial boards of numerous international oncology journals, he is the author of more than 500 scientific publications, with thousands of citations and a high h-index, testifying to his recognised standing in Italian and international medical oncology.
