Ugo Pastorino has been Director of the Thoracic Surgery Division at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori of Milan from 2003 to 2024.

 Appointed as consultant thoracic surgeon at the Royal Brompton Hospital of London in 1994, was Head of Thoracic Surgery at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) from 1998 to 2002, Associate Editor of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute from 2001 to 2014, and Scientific Director of the Istituto Nazionale Tumori of Milan in 2014/2015.

 Author of 469 papers, with over 26,000 citations and an H-index of 79 (Scopus), is the PI of three on-going lung cancer screening trials with LDCT and blood biomarkers (BioMILD, SMILE, RISP).

In 2016 received the Joseph Cullen Award for Research on Lung Cancer Prevention from the IASLC.
