Mapping school-based smoking prevention projects

In this section it was possible to submit smoking prevention projects addressed to children, adolescents and young people. Organizations and schools were invited to submit their projects, which were presented during the conference in a dedicated education session.

Submission closed on February 15, 2026.

Purpose

This Call for Projects aimed to identify, collect and map innovative projects that addressed the prevention of smoking in schools. The objective was to create an overview of practices and approaches that were being implemented by organizations and institutions in the field of tobacco prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles among children, adolescents and young people.

The mapping served to:
· Highlight innovative and effective projects
· Promote knowledge sharing and networking among stakeholders
· Strengthen collaboration between schools, health organizations and communities
· Inform future strategies and policies for tobacco prevention in educational settings

Eligible Projects

We were looking for proposals that:

· Developed interactive educational activities (workshops, games, role play, artistic initiatives);
· Applied innovative methodologies (theatre, peer education, etc.);
· Involved students, families and teachers in an active role;
· Were grounded in scientific evidence or inspired by good practices and included monitoring or evaluation (including self‑evaluation questionnaires, feedback forms, learning journals, observation tools, etc.);
· Were replicable and scalable in multiple schools or regions.

 

The description of the project had to focus on the following aspects:

  1. Innovation and originality of the methodology
  2. Impact on students and the school community
  3. Sustainability and potential for replication
  4. Monitoring and evaluation framework

Eligible Applicants

· Non-profit organizations and associations
· Social cooperatives and community-based organizations
· Schools and school networks
· Foundations and research institutions with educational projects
· Public–private partnerships working in health and education
