Previously, Assistant Professor at Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Primary Prevention, National Research Institute of Oncology (Poland). Co-founder and Research Director of the Interdisciplinary School of Health Promotion for Seniors at Collegium Civitas (Poland). President of the Poland Foundation „Smart Health – Health in 3D”. Formerly, President of the Poland Civil Society Coalition “Tobacco or Health”, President of Nicolai Copernicus Society, Research Director of the Poland Health Promotion Foundation and Board Member of the European Network for Smoking Prevention (ENSP; Belgium). Member of several editorial boards, scientific councils or review committees of Polish and international scientific journals.

His scientific fields of activity include epidemiology of man-made diseases, sociology of health, health promotion and education, public health programs and policies, new technologies in public health, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse and addiction, in particular from tobacco, nicotine and alcohol products.

Principal investigator, country coordinator or research collaborator in almost 170 Polish and international research projects, including GATS, GYTS, EUREST-PLUS, EPACTT-2, FAMRI, PONS, SEARCH and TackSHS. Expert of Health Committee of the Polish Parliament, World Health Organization (WHO), International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), International Union Against Cancer (UICC), World Bank and Open Society Institute. Lecturer at Summer Tobacco Control School of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health (USA). Author, co-author or editor of 398 publications, including 198 peer-reviewed papers, 66 books or book chapters, 43 research reports and 22 guidelines.
