Julia Nowicka-Janik is a 3rd-year PhD student and lecturer at the Department of Public Health and Social Medicine, Medical University of Gdansk, Poland, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Health. Since 2022, she has been actively involved in tobacco control research and advocacy as a student and young researcher. Her research focuses on tobacco
and nicotine marketing strategies targeting young people, particularly in environments frequented by adolescents and young adults. As a young researcher, she is especially interested in understanding how the tobacco and nicotine industry reaches young people and how public health policies can respond to these challenges. She completed a scientific internship in the United States, where she expanded her knowledge of tobacco industry tactics and nicotine product marketing. She is currently involved in the development of the Nicotine Prevention Center at the University Clinical Center in Gdansk, Poland. Her interests include qualitative research, commercial determinants of health, and tobacco control. She participates in tobacco control trainings organized by CTFK and is a member of ENSPNext. In addition to her research, she educates young people about the harms of nicotine products and mentors students through her involvement in a student scientific society.
