Elizabeth Tamang is a medical doctor specialized in Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health, with a strong commitment to improving population health through prevention and health promotion. She currently works at the Department of Prevention of the Local Health Authority 6 Euganea at the Food Hygiene, safety and nutriton service and collaborates with the Regional Prevention Directorate in Venice.
She coordinates the regional Integrated System for Contrasting Chronicity Determinants program and leads the Local Prevention Plan 2020–2025. She is also actively contributing to the development of the next Regional Prevention Plan for 2026–2031.
Throughout her career, Dr. Tamang has played a key role in tobacco prevention and control. She has been responsible for shaping tobacco prevention strategies at the Veneto Region level and overseeing tobacco control initiatives within the Local Health Authority. She has also taught at the Postgraduate School of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University of Padova. Among her notable contributions is the introduction of the Peer Education methodology in school-based tobacco prevention programs across the region.
Her professional experience includes leadership roles such as Vice Director at the Hospital of Camposampiero and Director of the Regional Centre for Prevention. She has coordinated female cancer screening programs and led the Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion in Padova. Her international experience includes serving as a consultant at the WHO European Office in Copenhagen and managing European and regional projects focused on health promotion and tobacco prevention.
Dr. Tamang has also been actively involved in international networks, serving as Chair and Advisory Board member of INWAT Europe Foundation and contributing to European tobacco control initiatives.
