DANIELLE VAN KALMTHOUT
BIO
Danielle has served as General Coordinator of the Belgian Alliance for a Smoke-Free Society since 2018. Trained as an international and EU lawyer (University of Leiden and Strasbourg), she brings a strong background in advocacy, public policy, and coalition-building. Under her coordination, the Alliance has steadily grown into a respected network that plays an important role in advancing tobacco control in Belgium. Before turning her focus to tobacco control, Danielle built extensive expertise in the environmental field. She was Director of RREUSE, the European network of social enterprises in reuse and recycling and later worked at the Policy Research Department of a Belgian consumer organization, where she was responsible for environment, sustainable development, and EU affairs. Alongside her professional work, Danielle is a PhD Researcher at the Human Rights Centre of Ghent University. In 2022, she was elected to the Board of the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP).
