Juha Pekka Turunen is the General Secretary of the Cancer Society of Finland and Cancer Foundation Finland.

He has been a member of Executive Board of ECL (Association of European Cancer Leagues) 2024-25 and was elected as President of ECL for 2026-27.

He is a medical doctor, MD, PhD, specialized in Clinical Pathology with special competency in health administration.

He has diplomas for Health Executive MBA (eMBA), and for approved board member (HHJ).

He has been the President for Nordic Cancer Union 2022-23, and member of the Board 2024-.

Currently he is a member of the Steering Committee of the first national cancer strategy in Finland and chair for the noncommunicable disease network of Finnish organizations 2025.

During his professional life he has been working as a clinical pathologist at Helsinki University hospital for multiprofessional cancer treatment teams consisting of specialists in oncology, surgery, radiotherapy and other relevant specialities.

At the moment he works at many levels against cancer: from prevention of cancer to molecular changes in cells and early diagnosis, treatment and implementation of cancer protocols in order to improve safe cancer treatment and support of patients and their families.

Advocacy work for the benefit of cancer patients is the most important mission.
